First Time Use

The first time you use CryptoFD after installation, you will be asked to register. In order to do so successfully, you will need a registration key and an active connection to the internet. You will also need to supply your first name, your last name, and your email address.

After filling in the information and clicking Submit, a popup window will confirm successful or unsucessful registration. If you receive a failure notification, check the reason code. A list of codes are listed below.

If you are not connected to the internet the first time you use CryptoFD, you should continue with the attempt to register. If the first time registration fails, the program will estabish a 14 day grace period from the time of installation. You will not be prompted to register until 5 days before the grace period ends. With 5 days or less remaining, you will be asked to register each time you start CryptoFD. If you fail to register by the time the period expires, CryptoFD will only Decrypt.

You can intiate the registration process from the Tools menu at any time.


Error Codes

SUCCESS

You are good to go.

ERROR_INVALIDKEY The key should have a pattern of xxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. There are no numbers or special characters other than dashes. Check the key carefully for transposed or dropped characters and re-Submit. (Note: during key entry, case is not important. The program converts all alphabetic characters to upper case before transmitting the data to the key management server.)
ERROR_MAXCOUNT You have exceeded the limit of installations for the key. The limit specified in the EULA is 3. The actual count is set to 5 to allow for system upgrades or system problems. Contact Support.
ERROR_INVALIDPRODUCT This should not happen. If it occurs, the internet connection may have failed during data transfer. Resubmit if you have a good internet connection. If the problem occurs a second time, contact Support immediately. There is probably an error on the website. My bad.
ERROR_EXPIREDKEY The current date was determined to have passed the valid period of use. This is only set for Trial Versions of CryptoFD. Standard keys are set to 10 years. By then the program won't work on the new Windows® BiggerAndBetter operating system. If this occurs and you have a Full Version of CryptoFD, please contact support@hodsonssoftwarellc.com immediately.
